Two pieces or four

Each set has two bonuses: one at two pieces, another added at four. The two-piece is usually a flat modest gain (ATK, or elemental damage), while the four-piece is what changes how the character plays — which is why it is worth waiting for.

Until a usable four-piece comes together, two-plus-two from different sets is a respectable choice, not a stopgap. You will see it named "budget" on character pages.

Main stats matter more than the set

The most common mistake is chasing the right set with pieces carrying the wrong main stat. A correct main stat from an imperfect set beats a perfect-set piece rolling a stat its wearer cannot use.

That is why every character page names the three required main stats — sands, goblet and circlet — before it names the set.

Sub-stats

The usual order for most builds: CRIT Rate, then CRIT DMG, then whatever the character scales on (ATK, HP, Elemental Mastery, Energy Recharge). The well-known crit ratio is one to two — each 1% of CRIT Rate is worth about 2% of CRIT DMG — with roughly 70/140 as a healthy target.

And this is a general rule that gets broken: a character built on Elemental Mastery or reliant on Energy Recharge gains less from crit than from whatever makes their role work.
